Dingo, Blue Swimmer Crab and Flame Tail Snapper

This painting I have created using watercolour paint and acrylic paint. I coat the canvas with 'Watercolour ground’ a primer that makes the canvas more paper like and easier for the water colour paints to stick to.  This time I decided to work backwards from the way I usually paint and painted the subjects first (the dingo, crab and fish). I the then painted the background so I could make the subjects stand out more from the background I'm quite pleased with how it turned out.  

I was reading about dingoes specifically native to K'gari (formerly Fraser Island) off the coast in Queensland. The Butchulla peoples (indigenous peoples of K'gari) referred to wild dingoes as 'Wongari' and the camp dingo as 'Wat'dha'. The Blue Swimmer Crab and Flame Tail Snapper (featured in painting) are both found in the waters of K'gari. I was inspired to paint the dingo rolling around in the sand by my own dog who loves to roll around in 'good' smells. Dingoes and sometimes domestic dogs roll around in 'good’ smells specifically the poo of their prey to take the sent back to their pack.
