Biby and Rabbit with Dessert Raisin done in acrylic paint on a water colour background created with water colour and salt.
I was inspired to create an art piece that tells the story of two animals caught in tumult with one another due to the humans that put them there. The European Rabbit and the native Australian Bilby. The rabbit population thriving to the point where they are considered a pest and culled in large numbers.
The Bilby population suffering to the point where they are endangered due to the way that wild rabbits destroy their habitat and compete with the Bilbies for food.
The Australian bush tomato, also known as Kutjera or Desert Raisin, is a native plant that both rabbits and bilbies feed on running up the middle of the piece. The watercolour background reflects the red sands of the Australian outback desert and the starry night sky.
